Exposure to Environmental Estrogen-Like Hormones in Utero Feminizes Young Boys

November 23rd, 2009

A team of researchers from the University of Rochester said that boys who were exposed to estrogen-like hormones in certain plastics were “feminized”.  Males exposed to high doses in the womb went on to be less likely to play with boys’ toys like cars or to join in rough and tumble games, they found.

The findings are reported in the International Journal of Andrology.  The research concerns phthalates, found in vinyl flooring and PVC shower curtains.

It has been known for some time that many man-made chemicals have estrogen-like hormone effects.  Perhaps 10,000 estrogen-like chemicals are present in the environment.  These are called “xeno-estrogens”.

Not only are these xeno-estrogens a problem for boys and men.  They are also a problem for girls and women.  Together with birth control pills, this is why many women in the last 50 years have developed so many “female” problems - PMS/PMDD being a near pandemic.

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about it.  Unless you want to go live out in the woods, it is virtually impossible to avoid chemical exposure of any kind of toxins, much less xeno-estrogens.

You can definitely avoid birth control pills.  For a good reference on the dangers of birth control pills and synthetic HRT (hormone replacement therapy with Premarin and other conjugated estrogens), see www.DitchThePill.org .

Obviously, continuous exposure to high levels of estrogen-like compounds alters the balance between estrogen and progesterone in your body.  We address that balance in great detail (if you buy the book) on this PMDD/PMS website.

Hormones are powerful.  We are the summation of our hormones, especially the sex hormones.  When exposure to toxins alter the natural balance of hormones, don’t be surprised when symptoms develop.  Mainstream medicine has not caught on to this principle and continues its head-in-the-sand ignorance of this genre.

Government agencies, medical societies and state licensing boards continue to harass doctors who understand the true importance of natural hormones and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.

Go figure.

FDA Going to Ban Armour Thyroid

October 22nd, 2009

Armour Thyroid and other similar desiccated thyroid hormone brands are about to be banned from production by the FDA.

Even though Armour Thyroid has been around since 1890, everyone thought that it was “grandfathered” before the creation of the FDA in 1938.   Well, in 2000, the FDA announced that they would regulate every single drug regardless of year of origin; and in 2006, they initiated their persecution in earnest.

It took 3 years, but the FDA officially banned Time-Caps lab, a huge generic manufacturer of desiccated thyroid, earlier this year. The wording of the FDA letter effectively targets ALL manufacturers of desiccated thyroid hormone (brand names Armour, NatureThroid, Wes-Throid).  It is only a matter of time before the other manufacturers receive the same ban letter.

No wonder they are cutting back production!  Getting a drug approved by the FDA will cost them hundreds of millions of dollars and many years delay.  The million or so Americans taking Armour or similar desiccated thyroid are just out of luck.  Mainstream medicine, Big Pharma and the FDA arrogantly think you should be taking Synthroid, instead.

What can you do?

If you cannot find any desiccated thyroid, I suggest switching to “Raw Thyroid”. It is virtually the same thing as Armour.  This is a dietary supplement that contains a mixture of thyroid and adrenal gland. It is not as potent as Armour but if you take enough, you can make it work.

Through special arrangement with the distributor, we have arranged a 10% discount by clicking this link:

http://doctor.rejuvenation-science.com/andrewjones1/

Be sure to enter the discount code: andrewjones1 in the proper box to get your 10% discount.

How much should you take?

We don’t have an exact conversion from Armour to Raw Thyroid.  My best recommendation is to take 1 to 1 ½  Raw Thyroid tablets for every
30 mg (or half grain) of Armour.

What does Armour thyroid have to do with PMS or PMDD?  A lot.  Many, if not most women with PMDD or PMS have symptoms of an underactive thyroid. Many require iodine to help out their thyroid, but some still require actual thyroid hormone replacement.  For more information on thyroid issues, please go to www.1-Thyroid.com .

40,000 Deaths by “Wrong Diagnosis” Annually - And You Thought Your Doctor Diagnosed Your PMDD Correctly?

September 13th, 2009

Every year about 40,000 to 80,000 people die every year in the USA from misdiagnosis.  So says David E. Newman-Toker, MD, PhD, assistant professor of neurology and otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

He was the lead author of an article published in the March 11, 2009 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, who says that thousands die every year because of diagnosis errors.

If mainstream medicine is this bad where misdiagnosis of sick people result in thousands of deaths, imagine the sloppiness involved when it comes to women’s health problems?  The ignorance, laziness and just plain arrogance within the ivory towers of mainstream medicine continues to torture women around the world with their outdated and big drug company pushed “solutions” to PMDD/PMS.

To be fair, mainstream medicine does a great job of treating people who are extremely sick and administer fantastic acute trauma care.  So if you have your heart attack of gunshot wound you are in great hands at the typical prototype hospital.

But for those with “chronic” problems, forget it.  All mainstream medicine wants to do is give you the latest prescription that usually makes you worse (like birth control pills).

This is why people are turning to natural alternatives and bioidentical hormones and escaping the clutches of mainstream medicine. PMDD and PMS respond quite well to natural treatment with bioidentical hormones and other natural supplements. Just don’t discuss this with your mainstream doctor - he will think you are nuts.

You know better.

Black Cohash and Red Clover are a Waste of Money - The Best Way to Treat Menopause are Bio-Identical Hormones

August 13th, 2009

Two studies recently published in the online joiurnal Menopause, put out by the North American Menopause Society, demonstrate that botanicals like Black Cohash and Red Clover are ineffective in alleviating hot flashes nor helpful in improving cognitive function.

For several years, I have been saying that the reason why Black Cohash does not help.  Why?  Because plant-derived plant sterols are not active in humans.

The same thing goes for yams.  The main ingredient in yams, diosgenin, is not active in humans.

So all of those yam, black cohash and red clover herbal supplements don’t help at all.  No help, nada, nothing.

Most everyone remembers that the synthetic hormone, Premarin, works fairly well in helping menopausal symptoms. But the side effect profile, especially long term, is frightening.  Cancers, heart disease, blood clots lead the list of problems.
On the other hand, human hormones take care of business in no time - and without the side effects.  After all, this is what Mother Nature intended for you to have.  Bio-identical estrogens begin to alleviate menopausal symptoms virtually overnight.  See my website at www.1-Menopause.com for more information.

One warning, try not to take estrogens without being partially matched by some progesterone (bio-identical).

One little secret - I am recommending bio-identical hormones in the treatment of PMS - but not estrogen.  Sorry I can’t give you the full remedy here.  You will have to read my book.

Celiac Disease, Recurrent Mouth Ulcers and PMS/PMDD

July 9th, 2009

A new study in last week’s BMC Gastroenterology reported the observance that a small percentage of people with recurrent mouth sores (apthous stomatitis) have gluten-sensitive enteropathy (Celiac Disease).

“It has been reported that in 5 percent of celiac disease patients, aphthous stomatitis may be the sole manifiestation of the disease”, according to Dr. Farhad Shahram, of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran.

So what is Celiac Disease?  Mainstream medicine says that it is an autoimmune disease that attacks the lining of the small intestine and disrupts digestion of gluten-containing nutrients normally found in wheat, barely, rye and oats.

Celiac Disease has also been implicated in migraine headaches, another of my favorite topics (see www.Migraine-Headaches-Information.com ).  As an observation, in women who have migraines, also tend to have PMDD/PMS.  So what affects one condition, affects them all.

Recently, we have focused on inflammatory conditions associated with these conditions and found that digestive enzymes, especially proteases have become a game changer in terms of reversing previously untreatable autoimmune diseases.  This includes lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s Disease - the whole gamut of the alphabet soup of autoimmune diseases.

Those of us in the natural health field of medicine are coming around to the theory that autoimmune diseases and for that matter, almost all chronic health problems, are caused by a nutritional deficit - whether from nutritional deficiencies, an impairment of digestion, or some combination thereof.

Hormone deficiencies fall into that category, as well as the well known dietary deficiencies around the world of Vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil), magnesium and iodine.

These deficiencies form the backbone of our supplementation recommendations. But we are also now attacking the inflammatory conditiion the body finds itself in after years of nutritional deficiencies.  And we are recommending supplementation with digestive enzymes and focusing on proteases, and nattokinase, in particular.

Notice that we are not pursuing steroids, NSAIDS, or immune suppressants poisons (I mean - drugs).
Rather we are pursuing a natural treatment course for reversing these conditions at the root cause. This is an exciting path and one we were are continuing to experience pleasant results.

Vitamin D “key to healthy brain” - study shows

June 24th, 2009

There are four major nutrients that people are deficienct worldwide.  In other words, almost everyone on the planet does not have enough of the following four:

1. Vitamin D

2. Omega 3 (fish oil)

3, Magnesium

4, Iodine

What I want to discuss today is Vitamin D.  Again.  I love Vitamin D.  We are learning new functions about Vitamin D almost daily and it’s way more than just bone health and calcium metabolism.  Now it is one of Mother Nature’s best anti-inflammatories around, as well as a great anti-cancer nutrient.

In a recent study scientists have produced more evidence that Vitamin D is important in keeping your brain in good workiing health - especially in your older years.

A study published in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry of 3000 men in Europe aged 40 - 79 found those with higher levels of Vitamin D performed better on memory and information processing skills tests.

This study is on the heels of an earlier publication in January, 2009, that showed that high levels of Vitamin D can help stave off the mental decline that can affect people in old age.

Men with high Vitamin D levels performed best in range of tests on mental agility. Men whose blood Vitamin D levels of 35 nmol/liter or under scored poorly.  Keep in mind that 35 is considered “normal” on most lab profiles.  We try to push for levels exceeding 70.  Rarely do we get a blood level of 100.

What works for men - also works for women.  No gender discrimination here.  This is not a sex hormone.
How do you get higher levels of Vitamin D?  Not by sun exposure.  A study in sun-drenched Saudi Arabia found 83% of people studied with deficient Vitamin D levels.

The only way we know to get those kind of levels is by oral supplementation.  The old daily recommendations of 400 IU’s per day don’t wash, either.  Now we are at 5000 IU’s per day (and may be approaching recommendations of 10,000 IU’s per day).

We start out with a single dose of 100,000 IU’s per week for the first couple of weeks before we back off to 5000 IU’s per day.

Where do you get Vitamin D in these doses easily (and affordably)?  We recommend Natural Living products.  They have a wonderful 5000 IU Vitamin D product called Vitamin D5000.  Here is their link: www.1-Natural-Living.com

Get the Vitamin D.  While you are at it, get the Magnesium. And the Iodine.  And the Omega product.  You are probably deficient in all of them.

Here is a hint: I recommend all four of those products for women with PMS.  There are other recommendations, too.  So you still have to read my book, but this is a step in the right direction.

Rheumatoid Arthritis, Inflammatory Diseases and Your Gut

May 20th, 2009

For several years, I have been saying that there is a relationship to the bacterial flora in gut and your relative health.  This is also true in PMS/PMDD.

What does your gut have to with diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) or even with PMS or PMDD?

Think of your intestines and digestive system as your gas tank of your car.  Feed your car bad gas and don’t be surprised that your engine stops working after a while.  The same thing applies to your stomach and intestines.

What makes your digestion a little more complicated is the fact that it is inhabitated by about a quadrillion bacteria.  That’s a 1 followed by 15 zeros.  These bacteria live inside of us in a symbiotic relationship.  We give them free room and board in exchange for some benefits from them.

Good bacteria in your gut protects you from bad bacteria for starters (and yeast).  They also assist in manufacturing some enzymes and also manufacture biotin and help with Vitamin K synthesis.

But if your good bacteria get killed off with bad food, or some toxic exposure to steroids or (especially) antibiotics, then this causes problems.  Bad bacteria enter the system and take over.  Yeast (mold, fungus) also enter your gut and set up shop.  Bad things happen when the bad guys take over.  Your gut becomes a war zone and disease begin to occur.

Your body becomes a setup for inflammation.  Hence RA and other inflammatory conditions develop.  “Minor” conditions like PMS or PMDD become more susceptible when already deficient hormones become neutralized by altered digestion.

A few decades later, don’t be surprised when you develop heart disease and cancers.

So start with your gas tank.  Feed it good gas. Limit exposure to toxic things like antibiotics and birth control pills.  Take probiotics (good bacteria supplements).  My favorite recommendation is called Primal Defense and can be purchased from Whole Foods stores.

Make those good bacteria happy!

Framingham Study and PMS/PMDD

April 17th, 2009

In the world of mainstream medicine, there is one location in the world that is the holy grail of sorts - Framingham, Massachusetts.

The citiizens of this little town has been the most thoroughly studied  population in history. They have been picked, poked and prodded from every angle. Every facet of life that can be derived from blood tests to subjective testing has been performed on these people.

Perhaps the most famous ongoing study and conclusion of them all relates to Framingham and heart disease.  Here is where the saga behind cholesterol and its supposed relationship to heart disease began.  And here is where a multi-billion drug industry was born.

Next to the anti-depressive and anti-ulcer class of medications, no other group of medications, called “Statins” have been more prescribed. In 2004, just two statins from two different drug companies raked in $12 billion between Lipitor and Zocor.  There are a dozen or so flagship statin drugs out there.

The anti-ulcer class of drugs, called H2 blockers, went down in flames several years ago (remember Tagament and Zantac?) when it was proven that peptic ulcer disease had nothing to do with stomach acid.  Of course, the big drug companies made off with billions of dollars over 3 decades before mainstream medicine finally admitted to their veterinary colleagues that the whole class was worthless but who is counting?

The next big class of drugs to fall - and fall, spectacularly - will be the statins.  Why?  Because they kill people prematurely and it will be proven that cholesterol is not the bad guy mainstream thinks it is.

Five major studies on statins have shown that the 5 top selling statins lower your chance of death by less than one percent.  Yet, more studies show that falling cholesterol levels are found to increase heart deaths by a factor of 14% for every 1 mg/dl DROP in cholesterol level.

And this study came from …. Framingham!  Yes, Framingham, the darling of the big drug company, mainstream medicine world, proved that lower cholesterol actually raises your chance of dying from a heart attack.

Tell me, have you read about that in your local newspaper?  I seriously doubt any of the zillion TV ads that are now saturating the airwaves don’t mention that fact, either.

If you want more details on the benefits of cholesterol and the detriments of statins, go to:

http://www.migraine-headaches-information.com/blog/?p=71

What does this have to do with PMS?  The same people who tell you that your PMS/PMDD cannot be cured are also the ones joyously describing the wonderful benefits of statins.  Don’t believe them.

“Cyberchondria”

March 31st, 2009

A recent article in the Orlando Sentinel described a high tech trend as a result of the internet.  “Cyberchondria” is self-diagnosis by means of the internet of a fatal or near-terrible condition that you believe you have.
Of course, what happens is that people will go online and type in their medical symptoms. According to mainstream medicine (who is the guardian of all health information), researching your health problems on the internet should not be done. They believe that people are stupid enough to believe that within minutes of their internet search that these people will learn that they have a fatal condition and should be dead in a week.

If you are reading this blog, then you may be one of the ignorant masses who should not be here, according to my mainstream colleagues.

Why is mainstream medicine so arrogant that you are not supposed to use sophisticated research tools to help you learn about your own medical issues?

Simple: It is all about power and control.

One of the major trends over the last 20 years is the dissemination of  health information over the internet.  Sure, some of it is bogus or badly researched.  But much of it is pretty darn good.  And the information you learn, in many cases, exceeds the knowledge that your doctor has of it.

Patients are increasingly armed with health information they found on the internet before they see the doctor. Perhaps doctors are intimidated by a knowledgeable patient?   Certainly, one of the main tenets of mainstream medicine in the past was that doctors knew best and knowledge is power.

Now, patients increasingly question their doctor’s understanding of their health problem. Choices are now available that were not considered in the past.  Oftentimes, mainstream medicine is so biased or just plain wrong but too stubborn (or ignorant) to admit it.

A great example is PMS/PMDD information found on this website. There is a reason why you are here.  If mainstream medicine was all that great, your PMS would be gone by now.  But it isn’t and now you are reading this.
Information gives you, the patient, control over your own life and health decisions.

Don’t let the arrogance of the smug term “cyberchondria” dissuade you from pursuing your research online.

Christmas, Holiday Season and PMS

December 23rd, 2008

What does Christmas and the Holiday Season have to do with PMS or PMDD?

Depression.

Yes, depression can be a feature for many people, men and women during the holiday season. This is the time of year, we are told, that people are supposed to be happy and joyous, surrounded by family and good cheer.

In reality, for many people, this time of year is fraught with loneliness, no family, dark days and stress. Add women with PMS/PMDD and the tendency towards a cyclical depression of low mood can turn into a holiday disaster.

Hormones make up a huge amount of our thought processes and moods. Admittedly, the lack of family and outside stressors are beyond the reach of your own sex hormones, but the lack thereof that accompanies women with PMS and PMDD multiplies the holiday season depression effect. Don’t forget that this time of year is the highest for suicides, so this is serious business.

We can’t control the weather, your family, your job, your financial situation or your spouse, but we can greatly influence your hormones. In all probability, if you are a woman reading this article, your ovaries are probably not making enough sex hormones plus your body is deficient in some other basic nutrients.

All of these are easily corrected. Find out when you get the book and start acting on my recommendations immediately.

Don’t let PMS/PMDD steal your joy this holiday season.
